Maine Dayboat Scallop Season

The season for Maine Dayboat Scallops runs from December to March. Availability during the season depends on weather and fishing conditions.

What is a Maine Dayboat Scallop?

Maine Dayboat Scallops are caught by local fishermen and landed on the same day they are harvested. The vast majority of sea scallops are caught by longer-trip vessels and either frozen at sea or treated with preservatives.

Dayboat scallops are ocean-fresh. They have never been frozen or treated with preservatives.

Supporting Local Maine Fishermen!

Our Maine Dayboat Scallops are sourced directly from local Maine fishermen.

One of those fishermen is Captain Larry Rich of Portland, Maine. Larry is the captain of the F/V Fisherman's Pride, located on Holyoke Wharf (the same wharf as SoPo!)

Larry spends around 4-6 hours at sea before coming back in with his catch. We then receive the scallops from Larry and ship them directly out to you!

Another local fisherman we source our dayboat scallops from is Captain Craig Stewart. Craig has been lobstering and scalloping out of Long Island in Casco Bay, Maine, for more than 40 years.

How Many Scallops Per Lb?

Our Maine Dayboats vary in size. They typically run anywhere from 15-25 scallops per lb.

“First experience with SoPo! Marvelous in every respect. Ordered 2 pounds of scallops for delivery to New York. Perfect packaging. Arrived exactly on time, and scallops were beautiful and delicious.” – Ruth - 5 Star Google review ⭐
