Description

Our Monkfish is wild-caught by local fishermen in the Gulf of Maine. This is super local, well handled wild fish, from a sustainable resource/fishery. There's a lot to be excited about with this excellent local option.

This Monkfish was caught during a day-boat trip and delivered to us fresh (this fish has never been frozen). Day-boat is a term used when a fishing vessel does not spend multiple days at sea, often freezing fish on the boat.

We clean and cut the fillet into 1 pound increments for you. This is a top-quality local option that we are proud to offer at SoPo.

Monkfish is often called the poor man's lobster. The reason for this is its firm texture and sweet flavor, reminiscent of our beloved Maine lobster.

Recipe: Gulf of Maine Monkfish in Thai Green Curry

Looking for a delicious way to enjoy our fresh Monkfish? Give our Monkfish Curry recipe a try, you won't regret it!

Often called “the poor man’s lobster,” monkfish is known for its tight, meaty white flesh. Monkfish is not only similar to lobster in texture, but also in flavor. It has a mild, sweet flavor without a trace of fishiness. Basically, in any recipe that calls for lobster, you can easily substitute monkfish, for a fraction of the price.

Please noteWe pack and prepare all orders the day of shipping to ensure quality and freshness.
